United States line

The only great liner to be built by the U.S., the United States smashed the speed record held by the Queen Mary. Though she went out of service in 1969, various investors have schemed to restore her to passenger service. Although her future looked bleak for a while, in 1999 she was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, she is moored in Philadelphia, awaiting financing and a plan to put her back on the open sea.
