  1. Wow. Just…wow. It’s like a library carrel on crack.

  2. Mike made me laugh out loud.

A Kill-Klatter 3000. Sounds like something from Wow, Wow Wubsy. Have you been watching a little Noggin/NickJr lately?

My favorite part of the contraption is the woven rug. It’s a cultural icon all by itself. There’s something about the whole set up that makes me want to hang an Our Lady of Guadalupe medal from the top.

Wait – who’s the patron saint of NaNo?

  3. Haha! Wow, Wow Wubbzy was the first thing that came to my mind when I read Kil-Klatter 3000. Too funny.

  4. Mike, the ex-librarian in me is smiling at that.

Believe it or not, I’ve never seen “Wow, Wow Wubbzy”. Most of the kiddie shows the spawn process enjoys are on PBS, which is perfectly fine with me.

No, the Kil-Klatter 3000 name comes from an actual product. One of my thrift store typers came with a rubber Kil-Klatter pad. A little of the ol’ Google magic reveals that there were a number of Kil-Klatter products, including a typing stand. I called this the Kil-Klatter 3000 because I see it as sort of the ultimate typing pad. Plus, the name Kil-Klatter rocks.

Monda, according to Saints Preserve Us, the patron saint of writers is St. Francis de Sales. Sounds like a good patron saint for NaNo. Depending upon your outlook, you could also go with St Jude, the patron saint of hopeless causes.

  6. So level with me here– does the Ollie-9 really type? I mean, like an SM 9 types? Is it just kind of a wacky novelty typer, or can it really spit out the prose?

Time to take a video for the skeptical among us.

  7. With practice, a person can achieve pretty good speed on the Oliver. I type relatively slowly on it, however. Because there are no other keys to the right of the “L”, I’m always shifting my right-hand fingers over by one key and hitting the wrong character (note that most of the typos above involved hitting the “b” instead of the “n”).

Here is a great video one of the Yahoo Typewriters members made of him using his Oliver 9:
