Yeah, that’s what the interwebs seem to be made specifically for: wanking in full view of the public.
…ew.
Anyway, it pains me to say so, but I feel the same way about my Olympia. After using my almost too user friendly Lettera 23, hacking out a page on the slightly stiff SM9 feels like an endurance trial.

Hrm. I think this has got to be a matter of personal touch, and probably machine adjustment. Both my Studio 44 and my SM9 are wonderful to type on (and comparable, both being pretty heavy machines.) The Olympia is crisp and quick and telepathic, the Olivetti almost lunges for the page. It’s not easy to hop between them in the same session, but once adjusted, I feel fine using either. Perhaps I just have promiscuous fingers.
The Lettera-clone that I once had and eventually gave away did feel like I was rattling along the guard-rail of a cliffside drive, though. Anything could happen with that machine.

I know what you mean. Going from my skyriter to the SM9 does feel a bit like an endurance run although it’s personal preference. I would love a Desktop SG1 and have some shock absorbers under each key but hey, I’m not so lucky… Someday though…

“Typographic wanking…” It’s true. That’s what we do. I even had to begin a whole other blog just so I could obsess without running off all my regular blog readers. I honestly don’t think we can help it.
That said, I have a Studio 44 like yours – pure misery to type on. I’ve taken it to the wizard and everything – it’s so different from the the little Lettera.
I refuse to get rid of it, though. It’s got a crazy-gorgeous cursive typeface.

IMHO, more people ought to be wanking about typewriters. Wait. That didn’t come out right.
