Win some, lose some

In the words of Monda, I am heartsick. The typewriter I have lusted after for ages, the Monarch 101, matched in its elegance only by its elusiveness, just went to someone with far deeper pockets than I. I hope whoever won it loves it as much as I have from afar.

I’m going to go cry into some vodka now.

  1. Oh my. You’re talking about some Very Deeop Pockets on this one. I understand completely, though, because typewriter-longing is more than a crush.

That’s one beautiful Monarch and I’m sorry it got away. Now is the time to rationalize.

  2. I think I’m going to take out my grief on the guy who beat me out for the Comet Deluxe a while back, who’s now bidding on the other one that was listed, too.

    eBay smackdown.

  3. I find the ceiling gets fuzzy when I ardently want a typewriter. I will go higher than I should with the thought of selling all I own to balance the transaction. I have stopped short of releasing the wife and children, but, you know, if that one typewriter should appear, well…

  4. It gets less painful the more it happens. At least that’s what I’m told. I recommend Nyquil and Ativan, though, just to help it along.

  5. I feel your pain. I got kicked around for about a month trying to acquire something as simple as a functional, clean SM-9. I kept getting within striking distance and then getting sniped at the last second.

    Bastards.

  6. I can’t see the price it went for. Can anybody tell me the price?

  7. There were two that showed up on eBay in quick succession. I don’t recall exactly what they sold for, but I think one went for $750 and the other just south of $1,000.

Why, have one you’re looking to sell? :-)

  8. No. I’m actually looking for one myself! But, I probably won’t have the money, nor the chance to find it! But, you’ve gotta admit, it’d be something to walk into a thrift store and see this for $10.00!! (Like that’s ever gonna happen!)
